What is Architecture Aptitude Test (AAT)?

AAT is an architectural entrance exam conducted by 7  Zonal IITs for admission in B.Arch/ B.Planning courses of IIT Kharagpur and IIT Roorkee. It tests ones’ ability about architecture and drawing.

Eligibility – To write AAT, one has to clear the cut off of JEE Advanced 2017. Only those candidates who have given B.Arch as one of their choices while filling their forms will be applicable.

Details Of AAT, 2017

  • Registration will be done from 10 am, 11 June 2017 till 5 pm, 12 June 2017.
  • Exam will be held on 14 June 2017, 9 am to 12 noon. 
  • Center for AAT will be 7 zonal IITs (i.e , Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kharagpur, Roorkee, Madras, Kanpur)
  • Result will be declared on 18 June 2017 on the official website of JEE Advanced.
  • Admit Card will remain the same as for JEE Advanced 2017.
  • Candidates need to bring their own Pencils and colors for drawing in the exam.
  • Medium of exam will be only in English.

Syllabus for AAT, 2017

  • Freehand drawing
    This would comprise of simple drawing depicting the total object in its right form
    and proportion, surface texture, relative location and details of its component
    parts in appropriate scale. Common domestic or day‐to‐day life usable objects like
    furniture, equipment, etc., from memory.
  • Geometrical drawing
    Exercises in geometrical drawing containing lines, angles, triangles, quadrilaterals,
    polygons, circles, etc. Study of plan (top view), elevation (front or side views) of
    simple solid objects like prisms, cones, cylinders, cubes, splayed surface holders,
    etc.
  • Three‐dimensional perception
    Understanding and appreciation of three‐dimensional forms with building
    elements, color, volume and orientation. Visualization through structuring
    objects in memory.
  • Imagination and aesthetic sensitivity
    Composition exercise with given elements. Context mapping. Creativity check
    through innovative uncommon test with familiar objects. Sense of color grouping
    or application.
  • Architectural awareness
    General interest and awareness of famous architectural creations – both national
    and international, places and personalities (architects, designers, etc.) in the
    related domain.
