The main objective of Goenka College of Commerce and Business Administration  was to create competent professionals for the fast developing business and growing service sector in post colonial India. The uniqueness of the college lies in the fact that it is an institution that teaches exclusively commerce subjects and had started teaching the subjects even before the University of Calcutta had its commerce stream. The College has maintained a steady progress along with the march of time. It is a co-education institution functioning as a full day time college.The tireless efforts of the teachers had helped to produce from the students a galaxy of eminent personalities in the field of business, industries and management.

BCom – Hons

This college at present offers three-year B.Com. (1+1+1) Honours course in Accounting and Finance. This course is meant for those who have passed the Higher Secondary Education conducted by the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or an equivalent examination conducted by other Boards/Councils/Universities recognised by the University of Calcutta, with at least 5 subjects including English.(Full marks for each subject must be at least 100)

Course Structure

The B.Com.(Honours) Course is of three years duration and the degree is awarded by the University of Calcutta after successful completion of the course. During the course period, the University of Calcutta holds three examinations:

  1. Part I Examination at the end of the First Year.
  2. Part II Examination at the end of the Second Year.
  3. Part III Examination at the end of the Third Year.

There are eighteen (18) Compulsory papers in the B.Com.(Honours) Course including one Compulsory Paper of 100 Marks on Environmental Studies. The total marks including the paper on Environmental Studies is 1,800. The syllabus of study consists of Honours Group (Eight papers),two General Groups(Seven papers),one Language Group(One paper)and Environmental Studies.

Admission Criteria

Admission procedure for B.Com.(Hons) starts generally in the month of June i.e. after the declaration of the result of Higher Secondary Examination by the WBCHSE. A Candidate intending to take B.Com.(Honours) course must fulfil the following criteria:

  1. Minimum marks (in H.S or equivalent 10+2 examination) required for online application.
    1. For Unreserved Category:75% in aggregate and 60% in any of the subjects mentioned below:-
      (*Subjects: Accounting, Business Economics including Business Mathematics, Business Organization, Mathematics, Economics, Statistics, Business Mathematics, Secretarial practice and office Procedure, Financial Accounting, Elements of Cost Accountancy and Auditing, Book Keeping, Commerce, Cost Accountancy and Principles of Management)
    2. For Reserved Category:10% relaxation in marks for OBC-A & OBC-B and 25% relaxation in marks for SC & ST.
  2. Applicant must have passed (H.S. or equivalent exam) with at least five recognised subjects including English (full marks for each subject not less than 100). A Candidate shall have to give his/her preference for Morning or Day section by mentioning 1 or 2 in the Admission Form.

M.Com.

The Post Graduate Course in Commerce(M.Com)was introduced from the session 2003-2004 in this college. From the session 2004-05 the college was granted academic autonomy for P.G. teaching by the University of Calcutta. M.Com.is meant for those who have passed the B.Com(3-year Hons)degree course. The college conducts M.Com Course as per the notification no.CSR/9/05 of the University of Calcutta. An Expert Committee of all full time P.G. faculty members,three persons of eminence, and two representatives of the University of Calcutta supervise,guide and control Post Graduate related academic matters of the college

Admission Criteria

A candidate intending to take the M.Com. course must fulfil the following criteria:

  1. Passed B.Com.(3-year Hons.)from any recognised University.
  2. 60% of total seats are reserved for C.U candidates and remaining 40% is open for candidates of C.U. and other Universities through admission Test.

M.Com Admission procedure generally starts in the month of August i.e. after the declaration of the result of B.Com. Part III examination by the University of Calcutta

MBA

Professional Course :Masters of Business Administration (MBA)

The MBA Programme was started in the academic year 2010-11. It is affiliated to the University of Calcutta and approved by the AICTE. Students are admitted in the course through a rigorous process of screening, group discussion and personal interview. The course is divided into Four Semesters,each consisting of six months duration

Admission Criteria

For unreserved Category : A candidate intending to apply for the MBA course must be an Honours Graduate of Science/Commerce/Arts with 55% marks in aggregate or a graduate of Engineering/Law with 55% marks in aggregate.

For reserved Category :10% relaxation marks for the OBC-A & B and 25% relaxation in marks for SC & ST.Applicants must have a valid C-MAT score.

MBA is a full time course.Students admitted in the course would not be permitted to join any service or accept any assignment before the completion of the course.

Commencement of Classes

The first semester begins from July and ends in December.

The second semester starts from January and comes to an ends in June.
