At AIESEC, we understand that we ought to give back something to the city that has given us a plethora of things.
Aamchi Mumbai started as a beach clean-up initiative in association with the UN Champion of the Earth, Mr. Afroz Shah, and has now spread to cover multiple issues in the city. We take up activities based on UN’s 17 SDGs, and try our best to contribute towards these problems in our very own little ways. We have been dedicated since January 2017. The people who mainly go from our side to clean the beach up are we ourselves, the youth. Rather than complaining, act. This is what we believe in. We take turns to go Department wise on a weekly basis.

There are multiple volunteering opportunities for internationals with our partner NGOs, as well as locals, under the Local Volunteer Program. The international gets a local buddy, and the local gets to work with the international and shape his / experience. Partner NGOs have projects based on Education, Women Empowerment, Environment and other SDGs.  Apart from this, under Aamchi Mumbai, we keep organizing smaller events that are centric to particular SDGs – blood donation, plantations, food distribution, to name a few. We spend time with kids at NGOs and celebrate festivals with them, whenever and in whatever numbers we can.

We are making sure that our work is now more spread out in terms of making a larger impact. Whether it is sharing a burst hunger challenge on social media or celebrating and influencing children’s lives on various occasions that occur in the country. Aamchi Mumbai’s goal now is to make a huge impact, through smaller actions, in terms of influencing the city and the people in it, but we still maintain the commitment and dedication towards what we started out with, which are the beach cleanups, while diversifying into other activities as well.
