In talks with Rashi :

What fascinated you towards acting, who was your inspiration?

It was a very organic process. I didn’t always know I wanted to do this. I think my desire to rid myself of my fears and my inhibitions led me to acting and that is when I realized this is what I wanted to with my life.

How was your initial struggle in this field? How did you cope up with that?

The first time I went for an audition was for an ad. And I remember it being so crowded. I saw people pushing each other just to get in and it frightened me so much I ran away. But you learn from these experiences. In the end if you are good at what you do and you do your work honestly, you find your place. I don’t have anybody in this industry so I think that is pretty much how I have found my bearings here.

How has your family contributed in this field?

My family has been supremely supportive, touch wood. Often times they don’t understand my work or the way this industry functions, but they support me nonetheless. It helps that my family is in Mumbai. I wouldn’t have been able to this without them.

Can you share your experience of working in ‘Paanch’? How was the reactions from your friends and family towards your portrayal of Gauri Laada?

Paanch was great. I had just done a few ads for pocket money before that. It was my first real professional acting gig and I only got love to be honest. The whole cast and crew were so amazing and I am still friends with a lot of them. I was so afraid of the stereotypical responses to grey characters. But I was surprised how many people sent in messages saying they loved a strong girl character. It was very overwhelming.

Today when you see your portrayal of a cruel and ruthless Gauri Laada in Paanch, what exactly you feel?

I am very happy and proud of it. Paanch changed me forever. But now I would like to be known for all the work I have done since. Apart from AISHA , I just worked on a film that is an indo french production. I also played the female lead in BOYGIRI which is a webseries for Balaji’s ALT channel. I wrote and sang two music parodies for Culture Machine under the name of SACHHI SAVITRIS and I sang a song called ‘Buri Buri’ for Manisha Koirala’s upcoming film Dear Maya. 3 of my ads are on air, each one different from the other. So there is a lot more to my professional life .

Currently you are working in web series called ‘A.I.S.H.A.’, can you pls tell us some about your character from that series?

AISHA is really close to my heart..something I am so proud to be a part of. I play one of the leads, Abigail who is this vigilante hacker of sorts. She believes what she is doing is for the greater good and she also has suffered a lot in her past. It is a very fun and complex part. I love my straight hair and corn rows- a very different look from anything I have done before.

If not acting where you would have seen yourself today?

I could’ve been many things I suppose. A dancer or a singer, since I have trained professionally in both. Or maybe an entrepreneur.

Do you feel that there are good opportunities for youth in the field of acting?

Most definitely! Now in particular. The web has opened up a whole host of possibilities and quality content that was missing before. It is a great time to be in the industry.
