Ola Electric has made the electric scooter the most talked-about product in India’s high-volume two-wheeler market in the previous year.

Ola Electric, an electric vehicle manufacturer, has announced a strategic investment in Israeli battery technology startup StoreDot. StoreDot is a “pioneer in batteries with super-quick charging technology,” according to the business.

Battery Technology on the Ola Electric

Ola Electric will now have access to its battery technology as part of the deal. Additionally, the company claims that it can fully charge a battery in five minutes. Ola will also be the sole manufacturer of StoreDot’s fast-charging batteries in India.

“We’re increasing our investments in core cell and battery technologies and ramping up our in-house capabilities. Additionally, we are hiring global talent and working with global companies undertaking cutting-edge work in this field,” said Bhavish Aggarwal, founder and CEO of Ola. Also, our collaboration with StoreDot, a pioneer in ultra-fast charging battery technologies, is important and the first of many.”

According to the company, Ola’s investment in StoreDot is one of many global strategic investments. It plans to ramp up its core R&D in advanced cell chemistry and production and other battery technologies and innovative energy systems.

Ola Electric, founded by Bhavish Aggarwal in 2017, is Ola’s electric vehicle manufacturing business, which supports sustainable mobility in India.

Factors Driving the Popularity and Increase in Sales

The attention on e-scooters is due to at least two factors

The ESG (environment, sustainability, and governance) regulations, which focus on the environment and emissions, have attracted interest. The second is Ola’s massive goals, which border on the audacious considering its promises of a ten million-unit capacity.

Who doesn’t know what a scooter is? The scooter has long been a cheap and practical vehicle, but it has always been powered by fossil fuels, from the Bajaj Chetak of yesterday to the current Vespa widely used in Europe. So there is an aspect of future readiness and environmental responsibility with an electric battery. Still, it is important to remember that electricity in India is predominantly thermal or coal-generated, so the power source will not be completely emission-free.

The scooter is available in the regular S1 and the S1 Pro. Range (181 km in Pro vs 121 km in S1), acceleration (3.6 seconds for 0-40 km/hr in S1 and 7 seconds for 0-60 km/hr in S1; and 3 seconds and 5 seconds, respectively, in Pro), capacity (2.98 kWh in S1 vs 3.97 in Pro) and charging time are all minor differences (four hours and 48 minutes in S1, six hours and 30 minutes in Pro).

Feature Power

Hill hold, cruise control, and voice assistant are among the more advanced features included in, the more advanced version. It is available in eleven bright colours, including yellow and red. Ola’s marketing directors said the colours are aimed at younger customers and that while black-and-white alternatives are the most popular, most other colours are also being booked.

Other electric scooters will undoubtedly provide Ola stiff competition, such as the Ather 450X, Hero Electric, Bajaj Chetak, and TVS iQube. While this may benefit the client, it may result in a paradigm shift for all, including two-wheeler manufacturers.

Ola Electric in India

Ola Electric has plans to create a gigafactory in India to meet the demand by the Ola Futurefactory. It will emerge as the world’s largest two-wheeler factory. Furthermore, the company revealed that it has already submitted a bid for Advanced Chemistry Cell Battery Storage under the Indian government’s production linked incentive (PLI) scheme.

Ola Electric has stepped up production, deliveries, and new bookings to become the country’s largest electric vehicle manufacturer. The company now produces approximately 1,000 scooters every day. There are predictions that will emerge as the most popular mode of transportation by the end of March.
