This smart speaker is intended to be your gateway to the Alexa ecosystem and everything the virtual assistant has to offer. This makes it a quite limited offering when taken as a whole. This generation has the same appearance as the fourth, with a mostly spherical form (there is a flat base so it doesn’t roll about) and a mesh cloth covering half of it.
The hardware of the Echo Dot is somewhat restricted because the majority of its unique capability is provided by software. A power connector for the included AC adaptor is on the back, and there is a single speaker on the front that is hidden by fabric. Given that it lacks a battery and is a stationary smart speaker, it should be left on a shelf or tabletop indefinitely.
Four buttons for volume control, question-asking Alexa, and microphone muting are located on the device’s top. It should be obvious, nevertheless, that the primary means of control is speaking. Low-medium volume also produces an excellent sound from the speaker. Although you can’t just put it everywhere and expect to get nice sound because it is fairly directional, it doesn’t sound half terrible in most rooms. There is undoubtedly a slight concentration on the bass region, but not to the point where you’d have trouble hearing other sounds indoors. Since this isn’t an outdoor speaker, there is no need for an outdoor frequency response. When listening to Shotgun Jimmy’s The New Sincerity, the bass drum’s boomy sound comes through with a decent level of oomph without overpowering the rhythm guitar’s quieter strumming.

What regarding the Amazon Echo Dot (5th Gen) isn’t so great?
Despite the fact that this is unquestionably the entry-level speaker to purchase for Alexa aficionados, there are a few downsides to take into account. The networking possibilities should be a little better to start with. The Echo Dot’s main connection is Wi-Fi, but Bluetooth audio streaming is also available if you want to play music straight from your phone. The Echo Dot is okay for an office or a kitchen, but it’s definitely not going to be a trustworthy part of a real audio system, and it won’t be much assistance at parties either. You also don’t have to raise the volume up too much before the bass starts to distort.
