MEET PRITAM DAS !

Lets get into a photographic conversation with Pritam Das:

1. How did you develop an interest in photography?

When I was in class 9 I started carrying a digital camera on every occasion like birthday parties, hangouts, annual sports, functions ,etc. From then on an interest grew inside me but never took it seriously. In my college days I found one of my friend uploaded a beautiful picture of her in facebook which was clicked by a professional fashion photographer in his studio. I thought of making some portfolios of mine also.I asked a college friend who had a Dslr at time. When he was clicking my pictures I was also guiding him from which angle the frame can be perfect. That day after shoot I realised that I can be better from behind the lens and then on it all started.

2. Do you have any formal training?

No, I never had any formal training till now.

ELEGANCE !

3. Among your works, which one is your favorite? Why?

My favourite one is Fashion Photography and Human Potrait. According to me when we look at every human being first we judge them by their appearence (complexion, height, dressing sense, etc). To me every human being is beautiful. From my point of view if the person is wearing dirty or the person is of dark complexion he/she is equally beautiful who is wearing neat and clean or of fair complexion. So, I want to give everyone the same feel through my photographs.

4. Whose work has influenced you most?

It’s Dabboo Ratnani whose work influenced me the most. If today I have chosen Fashion Photography then he is the only reason.

Nothing else, but WOW!

5. The old generation was a generation of original photographs and the current generation is a generation of filters and effects. What are your views on this?

I respect those photographers who worked on film cameras or used slides. There were no space for PREVIEW or chances for trial shots. At that time photoshop was also not there to make exposer correction. It doesn’t mean that I don’t respect current generation photographers. It’s the technology that became advanced and people are going with the trend. So actually we shouldn’t compare both the generations.

6. How do you get the person, place or thing that is in front of the camera onto the film, chip or paper in just the way you want?

Nowadays it is practically very simple to get everything according to you. As I mentioned you on the last point that techonology became so advanced that you can manage everything by sitting at your home. Social media, online shops, google maps, bloggers ,etc everything is there to help you out for neccessary informations. Even social media plays an important role to promote our works nowadays.

From a recent photoshoot!

7. Exactly what it is you want to say with your photographs, and how do you actually get your photographs to do that?

I use Nikon D810 and Canon 700D with the lenses that are appropriate with the genre of the shoot. And as we all know its the generation of photoshop and lightroom so I am also on the flow of it.

8. What technology/software/camera gear do you use to keep focused on what you do best, as you photograph?

Being a photographer, to make a good picture you should take care of only one thing i.e composition. If you keep the composition perfect no photographs will be an average it has to be a good one.

Thinking of a STORY, And capturing it in an IMAGE

9. What makes the good picture stand out from the average?

Being a photographer, to make a good picture you should take care of only one thing i.e composition. If you keep the composition perfect no photographs will be an average it has to be a good one.

A photograph captures a moment that will never return, but is there always!

10. Any message you would like to give to all those aspiring photographers out there?

You should learn how to look at the scene and see what kind of message and story you can tell from it. And as long as you put the message at the first place, you’ll be able to tell the story with any camera you have around. Not only become a good photographer, but also find that creative approach that helps your work stand out among the rest. One thing is for sure, a photographer can always work harder and that doesn’t take any special talents.
