“You are given only a little spark of madness, you mustn’t lose it” -Anish Kayal

These days students aspire to become successful Engineers or Doctors. They are fed with the idea that apart from proper education life becomes a mess.

“Study Study Study” becomes the only chant from their elders!

Amidst all the hitches, a little boy once dreamt of becoming something unique in life.

And here he stands today as the Youngest Comedian of our country.

Meet Anish Kayal, the youngest comedian of India. He is now a part Kalkutta Komedians, Kolkata first and funniest stand-up comedy group. He was a student of Don Bosco Park Circus and he is ready to share all his secrets with all the young talents aspiring to venture into a different path of life covered with adventures and mysteries.

Anish Kayal is ready to share his secrets with us !!

1)How did you get your start in comedy?

I just landed at a cafe hosting a comedy open mic with some unpolished jokes.

2)What is the difference between trying to write jokes and develop stand-up comedy material ?

Stand up comedy is completely original content. Writing jokes on Facebook is quite simpler, going up on stage and delivering it with the correct comic timing requires a lot of practice.

3)Who are your influencers?

I’m a huge fan of Biswa Kalyan Rath. He talks about his own life and makes it look so simple yet funny.

4)What are the secrets for telling everyday jokes in order to get the biggest laughs?

Just be confident. If you’re confident that your joke is funny, then you will get laughs. Keep rewriting and testing if it’s not working out at the first shot. Don’t give up.

5)Can you provide an outline on the most effective way to develop stand-up comedy material?

Sit and plot down whatever comes out in your mind which you think is funny. Frame it into a proper joke. Go test it at an open mic. Rewrite and retest it until it’s getting you a good laugh. There, you have a kickass joke now.

6)How do you deal with hecklers? But aren’t hecklers helping the show?

Hecklers are an integral part of the show. People might have different opinions sometimes, you need to prove your point. Hecklers help you better your improvisational skills too. You might come up with a better joke on stage.

7)What are some of the biggest mistakes new comedians make?

Biggest mistake new comedians make is that they’re not confident with their own jokes, so they rip off other comedians. I did the same too. But you learn from your old mistakes

8)What advice would you give new comedians just starting out?

Keep writing. Your jokes might not work out so well in the beginning. Keep going to open mics. You’re gonna make it slowly. I’m on the same path too.
