Innocent Rupa (Zeenat Aman) has to live with the unjust blot of being an ill-omen, since her mother had died after giving birth to her. To add to her misery, she receives severe burn injuries on her cheek, which permanently disfigure the right side of her face. She grows up to become an attractive lady, but her beauty is hindered by the hideous scar, which she hides under her long locks of hair. When Rajiv (Shashi Kapoor), a handsome Engineer arrives at her village from Bombay, he fails to notice the scar and instantly falls in love with her. It is only after their marriage that he finds out about Rupa’s deformity. This comes as a shock to him and he leaves her. However, fate has something else planned for this couple.
