Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995) is a box-office hit and is considered to be the longest-running Bollywood movie in the world. Commonly abbreviated as DDLJ, the movie is a romantic comedy and a musical which was directed by Aditya Chopra and produced by Yash Chopra. The movie was released by YRF and stars Shahrukh Khan and Kajol in the lead roles.

In this Aditya Chopra film, Shahrukh Khan plays Raj Malhotra and Kajol plays Simran Singh, both are NRIs in London. Both Raj and Simran have deep Indian values imbibed in them, though their styles of upbringing are completely different. Simran is from a conservative family and her father, Baldev, is the owner of a shop who has promised Simran's hand-in-marriage to his friend's son in Punjab. Simran is unhappy about this as she doesn't like the idea of marrying a stranger. Raj is a vagabond with a fun-loving father, Dharamvir, who is strangely proud of his son's failures in education.

Raj asks his father if he can go on a trip with his friends to Switzerland and Dharamvir allows him to. By a coincidence, Simran is on the same train he catches after she begs her father for a chance to enjoy her independence for one last time before getting married. Raj and Simran meet in the train and Raj constantly flirts with her much to her chagrin. The story develops with Simran finding that she has feelings for him too and is unable to come to terms with it. The movie develops the feelings that the leads have for each other and culminates in a heart-touching climax.

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge was released in Blu-Ray format by Yashraj Studios and is available in Hindi. The runtime of this film is 190 minutes. By 2013, this film had completed 900 weeks of playing in the theatres since the time of its release.
