Mayank Jitender Dagar (born 11 November 1996) is an Indian cricketer who plays for Himachal Pradesh in domestic cricket. He is a right-handed batsman and slow left-arm orthodox bowler. He was part of India’s squad for 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. He made his first-class debut for Himachal Pradesh in the 2016–17 Ranji Trophy on 6 October 2016. He was one of the youngest players in the history of the school, debuting for the team at the age of 13. As he progressed through the ranks, he started playing up the order, and eventually ended up opening for the cricket team. He also won the player of the RK Von Goldstein Invitational Cricket tournament and led the team to the finals of the tournament at the age of 13.

 

 

In talks with Mayank Dagar:

 

1. At what age did you start playing cricket?

Professionally, I started playing at 12, and started with playing board cricket.

2. What was your motivation to continue your practice?

My motivation to continue my practice was to represent my country as a cricketer and make the country win the matches. I also want to be the man of the match.

3. What has been your practice schedule since you started?

Well, in the beginning it was quite easy, there were more of running sessions and I also used to practice bowling on internet.

4. Whom do you consider your role model in real world?

My DAD, at a very young age I used to watch dad playing on the ground and at that time I made my mind to become a cricketer like dad. When I used to run on the ground,  my dad used to accompany me and he also used to run with me and motivated me in every step of my life.

5. According to you which match did you give your best performance?

Under 19, World Cup final game. I took 3 wickets and gave my 100% and that was my best performance till now.

 

 

6. How does your family take your success?

My family is more of the sports background. My Grand Dad was in sports and my dad is a cricketer and he played till university level. They stood by me in my ups and downs and always backed me even if I got a failure.

7. What’s the one key event that changed your life completely?

The one key event that changed my life completely was Under 19 India,  and I learnt a lot of things from my coach ON and OFF the field.  It was a great journey and experience for me.

8. Is there any other sport you are involved in apart from cricket?

I have been a district level player of Badminton.  Actually,  I have been into all kinds of sports.

9.  What’s your message for the budding cricketers?

My message to the budding cricketers is just keep working hard and keep moving forward thinking of the controllable things.  Be focused and just wait for the right time.  All the Best to all for their upcoming life.
