It is necessary to know that the mathematics in college is totally different from what we studied in school. It includes more proofs and turns out to be more theoretical than simple arithmetic. It provides in-depth knowledge about geometry, trigonometry, calculus and various other theories.

B.Sc(hons.) Mathematics is a three year course divided into 6 semesters under Choice Based Credit System, which includes :

Fourteen core courses;

  1. Calculus
  2. Algebra
  3. Real Analysis
  4. Differential Equations
  5. Theory of Real functions
  6. Group Theory 1
  7. Multivariate Calculus
  8. Partial Differential Equations
  9. Riemann Integration and series function
  10. Ring Theory and Linear Algebra 1
  11. Metric Spaces
  12. Group Theory 2
  13. Complex Analysis
  14. Ring Theory and Linear Algebra 2

Two Ability Enhancement Compulsory Courses;

  1. Environmental Sciences
  2. English Communication

Two Skill Enhancement Courses;

  1. LATEX and HTML
  2. Computer Algebra and Related software

Four Elective Discipline Specific(DSE) and four Elective Generic(GE).

Practicals are included  in each semester whose marks will be calculated with the core courses. They are performed on a computer using softwares like MATLAB/MATHEMATICA/MAPLE etc.

The total credits of the course is 140.

Eligibility Criteria for Maths Honours At Delhi University

Eligibility Criteria to take Admission in Delhi University for Mathematics honours  is atleast 45% aggregate marks and atleast 50% marks in Mathematics in HSC(12th Class). But finally the admission will be based on whether the cut-off percentage is met.

This Mathematics course is an important and valuable one that provides opportunities to students of taking some of the subjects of Masters degree. After taking this course,  there are many fields for higher studies and one can go for for M.Sc honours in Mathematics or M.A in Economics or Actuarial Sciences or Ph.D  and many other areas related to research.
