Coffee was first introduced to Europe by Arab traders in 1490 CE. However, it was not until 1650 CE that coffee drinking became popular in Europe when Spanish explorers brought it back with them.

Dutch merchants established the earliest European coffeehouses in 1610 CE (see Coffeehouse culture). By 1675 CE, there were five hundred coffeehouses in Amsterdam alone! The first coffeehouses appeared in Venice around 1510 CE (see Venetian Coffee Houses).

A major turning point in making coffee popular came with French expatriate Jean-Baptiste Mathieu de Closet’s invention of an improved method of roasting beans (see History of Coffee).

Coffee is roast before it’s a brew to give it more flavor and color. Then these roast beans are often used in lattes or cappuccinos. Not only this, Coffee is brewed without exposure to heat and served hot or iced cold.  But,  the brewing method may vary with the type and country.

Coffee can come in many forms beyond beans—from flavored syrups to chocolate-coated mocha balls to chocolate bars with coffee beans inside them—or as a powder that can be added directly to milk or juice instead of water.

Types of Coffee

Coffee is one of the most popular beverages in the world. It’s also one of the most variables. There are hundreds of varieties, from dark and strong to light and sweet. Here are some basic types:

  • Arabica coffee has a slightly sweet flavor, with hints of chocolate, nuts, and caramel. You may also notice hints for fruit and berries.

  • Decaf coffee process from the beans that are roast but not ground up. In this, there is less consumption of milk or sugar which contain higher levels of caffeine, so you may be alert after drinking it!
  • Instant coffee also originates from roasted coffee beans. And then, add it to hot milk to produce a beverage. (similar to hot chocolate).
