In Conversation with Ruhan:<\/h3>\n

How far has Climber been successful in spreading its message and actually helping students to pursue their passion?<\/b><\/h3>\n

The climber has impacted more than 50,000 students so far in India. Through MyCaptain.in ,our Online platform itself, we have catered close to 10,000 students so far, of which many have taken a a huge leap into their fields of passion. Many of them have won business plan competitions, have started up, written and published novels, built their own websites and apps, gone on to shift careers into design and what not! A lot of our My Captain mentees and Event delegates’ lives have been deeply impacted because of how we want to define things when it comes to passions and education. As a United Nations SDSN recognised program, we come with a strong belief of impacting students vertically and we will continue doing so with a team that has grown by 10 times since we started.<\/p>\n

In a world where everyone is busy talking about advancement of technology and politics why did you think that helping students discover their passion would be of prime importance \u00a0and that you would actually be successful in helping them?<\/h3>\n
Technology has impacted all sectors of our lives. From the way we travel within our cities to how we pay for things itself, everything has changed. But the way education is imparted isn’t. Added upon that are so many pressures and roadblocks that just make the life of any school or college going student horrible. And it’s not something that students haven’t realised. This sense of dissatisfaction and angst amongst students can be seen in any part of India. We at The Climber have always believed that a solution to this problem is of dire importance. A proof of this is the number of mentees we’ve had and the rate they are growing by. Our vision resonates with them and there have been many occasions of success.<\/div>\n

What would you ask your younger self to learn in school?<\/h3>\n

The art of Perseverance !<\/strong><\/p>\n

Now coming to passion and helping students discover it there is always a barrier. Supposing a student is not interested in science but his family has a big name in that line and his parents want him to pursue Medical and forces him to take it up. If you are given a chance to talk to both of them in a common room, how would you tackle the situation so that there everyone in the family is satisfied by a certain decision.<\/h3>\n

Remind the parents of how important it is for a doctor to be focused on his\/her work because lives are at stake. If their daughter\/son is not interested in the work a Doctor does, wouldn’t it be irresponsible on our part to force him into the field? Ask the student what she\/he wants to become and connect them to someone young who has done great things in that field. This would give parents the assurance that their child can make a Career in the field with ease, and also would educate the student about the challenges and opportunities to explore.<\/p>\n

<\/h3>\n

How was your experience in volunteering at disaster helpine and relief organisation?<\/h3>\n
This was back in September 2014, when floods hit Kashmir. I ran a campaign with some of my other friends on twitter to raise money and help people in Kashmir, while I myself was stuck in Chennai. The Disaster Helpline and relief organisation was an NGO that I worked with for the same. Some papers in India and Pakistan had covered us for the Online campaigning. I repeated the same within the Climber too during the 2015-16 Chennai Floods. We called the campaign #LetsHealChennai and raised Lakhs in Cash, and a lot of food and clothes for the victims from all across India. I love doing volunteer work like this.<\/div>\n

Does your engineering life have any connections with your decision to discover The Climber and helps student?<\/h3>\n
I never wanted to be an Engineer. Even during my studies in\u00a0<\/span>Chennai<\/span>, I\u00a0realised that it\u00a0wasn’t meant for me. There in College I met a lot of amazing people who were great at various different things except engineering, but were still stuck doing the same thing. This had a huge\u00a0impact on me. It was in College that I met Zeeshan<\/strong> and other like-minded people who thought the same. Hence began our tryst with the idea of The Climber and patching the education system.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n

<\/h3>\n

How do you plan to expand Climber in the near future ?<\/h3>\n
The Climber has shown a 10X growth since last year, in terms of number of mentees we have had, the students we have impacted and our own team size. Students resonate to our message and this is why the MyCaptain trend is growing fast in various College Campuses and cities at a fast rate. By 2019 June, we plan to have mentored close to a 100,000 students from all across India.<\/div>\n

If you had one piece of advice to someone looking for a start up \u00a0what would it be?<\/h3>\n

Look for a problem to solve.\u00a0I see a lot of students try to start up these days just to look hip and sound cool. That’s not what a start up is about. A start up (be it tech or non-tech) can only think of being successful if it\u00a0tries to solve a problem. So look for a problem to solve, and ask\u00a0yourself if you are passionate enough to solve it. Things will start opening up after that.<\/strong><\/p>\n
