Walking through K.I.S.S<\/h2>\n

Ranjit Naik<\/strong>\u00a0 would have been using his skills in arch\u00adery in an illicit game of hunting, . Instead, the brawny \u00a0youth from the Bhuyan tribe had his sights set on Rio Olympics 2016. Fate seems to have salvaged Jagabandhu Hembram, a Santhal, from spending the rest of his life helping his father on his farm, instead he is currently an employee of IT giants \u201cWipro\u201d.<\/p>\n

Firmly believing in this tenet and the status of Education in slaying poverty and hunger, K.I.S.S that started with just 125 tribal students in 1993<\/strong> in a rented building in Bhubaneswar Odisha , has today grown into the largest free residential institute for indigenous\u00a0 children. KISS provides holistic education from Kindergarten to Postgraduation along with food, accommodation, health care,\u00a0 all other basic provisions of life and vocational empowerment to 25,308 indigenous children<\/strong> of the\u00a0 impoverished background absolutely free. 7000<\/strong> students who graduated from KISS have a secured future and are acting as catalyst of change in their community. Students are enrolled from 62 aboriginal communities<\/strong>\u00a0of Odisha, of which 13 are classified as primitive. There are some students from adjoining States and African countries<\/strong> as well.\"KISS\"<\/p>\n

Dining facilities in K.I.S.S<\/strong><\/h2>\n

It was lunch time. Thousands of children, some as fledgling as five, stood deftly in queues, shining steel plates in hand, awaiting their opportunity to get into the colossal dining hall that can accommodate 10,000<\/strong> at a time. And if you thought that number would leave a grimy dining hall in its wake, think again. Not a speck of food lies anywhere.. All food is steam cooked<\/strong>. There is a large RO plant, and a biogas<\/strong> one. Hea\u00adlth check-ups are done on each child every week<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

KISS aslo featured in \u201cIndia\u2019s Mega Kitchen\u201d programme in National Geography.<\/strong><\/p>\n

You could make a pretty ins\u00adpi\u00adred guess on the kind of money such an enterprise would need. Which is why it comes as a surprise when KISS officials say they have so far not accep\u00adted any donations from any agency\u2014government or private\u2014or rai\u00adsed money through other means, though the school has been running since 1992.<\/strong><\/p>\n

K.I.S.S: When it comes to Sports!<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Sports occupy an important place in tribal tradition. Tribals are known for their corporeal resilience and\u00a0\u00a0 mental \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0prowess . However, they lag behind in the field of sports because of lack of acquaintance and opportunity. Recognizing this,\u00a0KISS has made arrangements to hone skills of tribal children in various organized sports. They are trained in modern training facilities created for rugby, football, hockey, archery, shooting, volleyball \u00a0\u00a0under proficient national and international coaches<\/strong>. Exceeding all expectations, tribal students of KISS have made the country, State of Odisha, tribal community and KISS proud, winning international Rugby tournaments in U.K., Australia, France, Laos, etc. They regularly win accolades at national and state level in various sports. Outstanding achievements of KISS tribal students at international and national level sports meets prove the effectiveness of KISS’ model of tribal empowerment.<\/p>\n

KISS has always given very high importance towards Academic superiority and providing various opportunities to the students. The students have benefitted from this policy of KISS and have done extremely well in academics and co-curricular activities. Faculties in KISS create an intellectual ambience through their research and perennial learning. Some of the faculties were awarded with Ph..D degree from different State level and National Universities<\/strong><\/p>\n
