What is Cholesterol?

#1 Eggs

Eggs are a cholesterol food to avoid because they contain three types: yolk cholesterol, egg white cholesterol, and egg albumin – which has no known effect on blood levels of cholesterol in humans. Eggs also contain choline – a nutrient needed by the nervous system that helps maintain brain health – which may help prevent cognitive decline associated with aging. #2 Chicken Liver

High cholesterol foods are a major contributor to heart disease. The American Heart Association recommends that you limit the following foods if you have high cholesterol. Chicken liver is a high cholesterol food that you should avoid. These have more than 1 gram of cholesterol per serving, which is the highest amount for any food on the list and more than twice the amount found in beef liver.

Chicken livers contain saturated fat, which can cause heart disease if eaten too often. Saturated fat raises your blood cholesterol levels, which increases your risk of heart disease and stroke. If you want to eat chicken liver, choose lower-fat varieties like light or non-fat varieties.

#3 Fatty Meats

Beef, lamb, pork, and wild game are all high in saturated fat and cholesterol foods to avoid. These meats contain saturated fat, which raises blood cholesterol levels. Red meat also contains heme iron, i.e absorbed by the body than non-heme iron, causing higher levels of LDL (bad) cholesterol. If you regularly eat these meats, try to substitute them with leaner cuts or trim off the fat.

Milk, cheese, and butter all contain high amounts of saturated fat and it is bad cholesterol food. Try to substitute low-fat versions of these items when possible. Full-fat dairy products contain more than 2 grams of saturated fat per serving and can also contribute to high cholesterol levels in your blood.

Dairy foods contain protein, which can help increase your satiety and curb cravings for other unhealthy foods — but if you’re trying to cut down on fat intake, full-fat dairy may not be the best choice for cholesterol.

Chicken and turkey contain saturated fat and heme iron, which can cause higher LDL levels. Hence is a bad cholesterol food. Deep-fried food often contains trans fat, which has been linked with increased risk for heart disease and diabetes in both adults and children who consume it regularly over time. Trans fat also raises bad cholesterol levels significantly more than healthy fats like monounsaturated or polyunsaturated fat.
